This project is a living space with an open plan for a young couple and their teenage daughter. The client brief was for a warm and welcoming space, reflecting the home owner’s love for travel and the outdoors. Their numerous nature themed books inspired a separate casual space for reading and reflection, which was demarcated by a custom screen. Although the function of the spaces is starkly different, they are tied together with a common theme expressed as co-current colors and textures. The inspiration came in the form of ‘AN INDIAN JUNGLE SAFARI’. A warm copper and cream backdrop forms the canvas for the rich textures of greens that are used as highlights throughout the three spaces. Prints, complements and accessories that, for their colours and shapes, evoke journeys to distant lands and the atmospheres of tropical countries. Abundant daylight is invited in, without interruptions through the south glazing - illuminating the depths of the room. A careful consideration has been placed on the selection of tones and finishes so as to avoid the overplayed bright and elaborated ‘botanicals’ theme. Instead, the design interprets this theme in such a way that a relaxed and sophisticated atmosphere is formed that takes small elements of inspiration from the jungle.
